Frozen Shoulders

The term frozen shoulder is one that is familiar to many people. It is known also as adhesive capsulitis. It is a common painful condition that affects the ability to move the shoulder. The exact cause of this condition is not known, even though it affects 2 to 5 percent of people during their lifetimes. The condition develops gradually over a period of time. Although a frozen shoulder may get better over a period of time without any treatment, but the recovery is often slow, and may affect the daily routine activities.

Frozen shoulder is characterized by limited motion of shoulder joint, pain and stiffness around the affected joint. The condition occurs when the connective tissue surrounding the joint becomes thick, inflamed and stiff. Age, medical condition (diabetes, hypothyroidism, and heart condition), gender and recent shoulder injury are some of the risk factors for developing shoulder joint.
